Hi! I really liked your "how levi gets punished for insubordination" comic and I wondered if I could use the idea but for the hobbit? I'll give you credit for where I got the idea from! Please?
Go ahead anon :)
I totally agree about the whole ice sculpture situation. JUST like you, at first I screamed 'cuz my ship was canon in some sense. However, logical attacked me, and I went on the same train of through like "how CARELESS man, do you gotta be?" and also, i couldn't help but wonder "but was putting Merida with someone such a need? like, did she HAVE to be in a pair to have her sculpture? So yeah, mixed feelings for sure. On the side, any more Mericcup art from you soon? :3 <3
You’re totally right anon, was putting Merida up there BY HERSELF such an awful idea that they had to google “Merida love interest” or a variation without checking their facts? And that makes me sad in general because Merida is the only princess without a definite love interest in the entire franchise. They shouldn’t have included Merida at all if their focus was on the romantic couples rather than experience this embarrassment. Sad and funny thing is no one probably has alerted them about their mistake.
I should be drawing more of them soon but don’t expect it to be too soon because atm I am quite swamped after having moved countries XD But keep posted, anon!
*holds microphone up to you* How do you feel that you inadvertently fooled professionals into thinking that a crossover ship, with the main character isn't even in it's original movie form and is instead an artist interpretation, was canon?
*taps mic* IS THIS THING ON
Honestly I was first flattered because that’s the standard reaction anyone would have to someone interpreting something they made (I certainly have never inspired an ice sculpture before). Apart from the fact that YAY MERICCUP, they inadvertently made it canon and they can’t do anything to change that.
Then when it sunk in I felt…it’s not upset but maybe in the same league? Disappointed? Bewildered? Flabbergasted? Because first of all they stole: 1) Hiccup, who is obviously not a Disney character, and 2) my work. Now I’m not saying I have any legitimate claim (the realm of fan works and its laws are still shaky after all) but fact of the matter is it was my idea, my design, and my work. That “professionals” would go as far as use it and produce something from it without credit is…appalling. Next is the fact that they didn’t even bother to double-check their facts. These are Disney people, you’d expect they’d have at least taken the time to watch the film? If anyone over at Dreamworks would so wish, some legal action could even probably be taken. Plus not only did they reproduce a FAN ART but also a fan art in an AU without knowing the wiser. That is downright hilarious.
And now there is an ice sculpture of my work officially hosted by Disney and I am sitting here laughing because this is one for the books. Good job, whoever did this; I mean thank you (sort of), but your carelessness is astounding.
