Working on backlogged requests: Aang and Toph building statues.
While I am unsure if either Aang or Toph built their respective memorial statues (Toph probably did tho), I think in the duration of their friendship they’d have gotten into contests with each other, not so much to compete but to learn from one another. And because they’re bros.
Edit: omg I am so tired of reading LOL S2PID TOPH IS BLIND. People, she can “see” through vibrations, remember? And as for knowing her own appearance, blind people can “see” faces they touch, meaning Toph probably has an idea what she looks like, at the very least where her eyes, nose, and mouth go. If she can sandbend Ba Sing Se as a kid, she’s more than capable of building statues as an adult. And that’s that.
I am powerless against doggy mind control.

So far we know Mako and Bolin’s mom and dad were mugged and killed by a firebender, but what if that’s just how Mako’s 8-yo self remembered it?
Let’s look at this logically. I’m with the idea that their parents were benders and were prolly pretty boss at it, judging from the boys. Now, with two excellent and varied benders against one firebender (a desperate one at that to be mugging a family), would their parents really have lost and died? So maybe that’s not how it really went down?
So let’s say their parents got involved with a gang (the boys did it, why not them), only a more dangerous and sinister one than The Triple Threats. Maybe that’s even how they met, while they were both members. They fell in love, wanted to leave to raise a family, but were forbidden from exiting. They escaped instead, went into hiding, and lived a happy life until one night several years later when they were hunted down and ambushed.
Dunno about you but it just doesn’t sit well with me that in a world where 14-yo amateurs can beat seasoned masters, two capable benders just get murdered.

This comic depicts a day in the life of a young Chief Toph Beifong, early into her motherhood. Toph’s high profile job and the stress of dealing with her unexpected child without a father to help take their toll on our heroine’s well-being, but thanks to her old friends, she learns to adjust to this new life, and the new person that is now in it.

edit2: I’m glad some of you commented on why Katara and Toph’s panels are about who they “ended up with”; I nearly didn’t post this for the same reason. As a teeny explanation though: 1) I couldn’t think of anything Katara would want to ask her future self as much as that question, 2) Toph saying “Am I still awesome?” or other variants were considered but sounded a lot less funny than that-troll-question, and 3) I don’t function particularly well at 6 am and was in no way expecting it to get more than a few notes so I went ahead and posted it anyway, 4) Even if you say your suggestion is better or funnier etc, this has already been done and published and there’s nothing we can do about it.
After Lin lost her bending, my friends and I were pretty damn sure Korra’s Avatar thing will be restoring it. What with the lionturtle talking about how benders bended energy originally, and Guru Pathik explaining blocked chakras and separation being an illusion. Plus, new kinds of benders apparently sprout like seasonal fruit so it can happen!
Let’s just say Korra has to learn bending restoration because if she doesn’t…she just has to, GODDAMMIT.
(I haven’t watched the season finale yet, I just can’t ;_;)
