Valentine’s requests: Toph and Sokka

Esteemed - Daily Grind (Complete)

A 4-part comic commission for the story ‘Esteemed’, written by destiny-smasher @ dA / saint-roku-university @ tumblr. This comic depicts a day in the life of a young Chief Toph Beifong, early into her motherhood. Toph’s high profile job and the stress of dealing with her unexpected child without a father to help take their toll on our heroine’s well-being, but thanks to her old friends, she learns to adjust to this new life, and the new person that is now in it.

More artwork, comics, and updates for this project can be found at the deviantArt group page or the Facebook page.

Title: Esteemed - Daily Grind (Pt 2)

By the time Lin is born, her biological father has abandoned Toph. She ends up slipping back into feelings she once harbored for a good friend whom she encounters all the time, since they both serve critical roles in Republic City’s management. A lot has changed since they were kids, and a mutual interest begins to form over the course of their day-to-day interactions.

(Sokka’s nickname for her, ‘Dead-Eyes,’ originates from ‘What I Learned at SRU.’)

Part 2 of a comic commission for Destiny-Smasher’s (saint-roku-university on Tumblr) “Esteemed,” a fanfiction and fanart project about the life of Toph Beifong growing into adulthood, grappling with the stress of police work, and learning to be a mother. A concept excerpt can be read here, and all art and fiction can be followed at #Esteemed-Beifongs or the project’s Facebook page.

Just a little head burp: what if the older GAang met their younger selves

I couldn’t resist after seeing the official SDCC GAang designs *swoon*

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to bed because today I am going to Japan for 2 weeks.

edit: for those asking what Zuko’s panel means, click here

edit2: I’m glad some of you commented on why Katara and Toph’s panels are about who they “ended up with”; I nearly didn’t post this for the same reason. As a teeny explanation though: 1) I couldn’t think of anything Katara would want to ask her future self as much as that question, 2) Toph saying “Am I still awesome?” or other variants were considered but sounded a lot less funny than that-troll-question, and 3) I don’t function particularly well at 6 am and was in no way expecting it to get more than a few notes so I went ahead and posted it anyway, 4) Even if you say your suggestion is better or funnier etc, this has already been done and published and there’s nothing we can do about it.

Dark comic for a dark episode (dant dant daaant)

My friend and I were discussing Korra’s ep 8 flashback and the idea that Yakone might have killed Toph and Sokka swam around. We already know Yakone’s the bad guy and bloodbenders are capable of killing (by crushing internal organs). We also know that Katara and Zuko are still alive, yet Sokka (who is a year younger that Zuko) and Toph (who is two years younger than Katara) are not. Zuko and Katara also weren’t at Yakone’s hearing while Sokka and Toph were based on the flashbacks. As for why Aang survived, Yakone might have failed to kill him, Aang being the Avatar and all.

Again, this is just speculation. You’re allowed to disagree, and personally I’d like to hear your theories as well.

As amazing as LOK is, damn I miss these kids.

This turned out a little too happy for me but hey, Avatar makes me happy. :)

(inspired by that famous Beatles album cover, you know the one)
